From invention to industry standard.

Amfit was founded in 1977 in Sunnyvale, California by Tony Tadin, but the idea started earlier.

In 1975, after being prescribed traditional orthotics, Tony experienced firsthand how slow, inconsistent, and uncomfortable the process could be. Plaster casts, delayed turnaround times, and rigid devices often failed to deliver the results patients needed. Instead of accepting it, he set out to change it.

Over the next decade, Tony developed a new approach, one that replaced manual casting with a digital method of capturing the foot and used that data to create a more accurate, repeatable orthotic. His goal was not just to improve the process, but to improve the outcome, creating devices that better matched how the foot actually functions.

By 1989, this work had evolved into Footfax, one of the first computerized foot scanning systems introduced into the orthotics and prosthetics markets. At a time when the industry still relied on manual casting, Amfit was already bringing digital measurement into real-world clinical use. Wider adoption of digital foot scanning would not begin until the early 2000s.

This foundation became Amfit. What began as a solution to a personal problem has grown into a complete system for digital orthotic fabrication, combining measurement, design, and manufacturing to deliver consistent, individualized results, while staying grounded in the original goal of creating orthotics that are more accurate, more comfortable, and built around real patient needs.

Four things no other
orthotic company has.

01

Soft Tissue Deflection

Our 538-pin Contact Digitizer uses soft tissue deflection to map the foot's underlying bony structure, measure tissue displacement, and capture how the foot behaves under load. This creates a true anatomical foundation for every orthotic.

02

Real-Time Orthotic Design with Correct & Confirm

Our Correct & Confirm software allows practitioners to shape and validate each orthotic in real time, refining structure, support, and pressure distribution before fabrication. Patients experience those corrections prior to milling, ensuring the final device reflects exactly what was designed.

03

Complete In-Clinic Fabrication

Amfit is one of the few systems that combines scanning, design, and milling into a single workflow. Practitioners can produce truly custom orthotics on-site, maintaining full control over how each device is created, refined, and delivered.

04

Medical-Grade Systems

Amfit systems are built for clinical use, supporting the fabrication of therapeutic and diabetic orthotics within regulated environments. From FDA registration to CE conformity, our equipment is designed to meet the standards required for medical application, not just retail use.

Built by people who know orthotics.

Amfit is built by a team with deep experience in orthotic technology, manufacturing, and clinical application. From engineering to clinical support, every part of the process is shaped by people who understand how orthotics should perform in the real world.

Based in Vancouver, Washington, we continue to focus on delivering precise, consistent, truly custom orthotics.
